Elliott McGoughy

11/21/1958 - 06/21/2023

Elliott McGoughy, affectionately known as “Peter Rabbit” was the third child born to the late Lessie D. McGoughy. He was born November 21, 1958, in Jackson, Tennessee. He departed this earthly life on June 21, 2023.

Pete touched so many lives and was loved by all who met him. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, Tennessee. He attended public schools in Jackson (Madison County), Tennessee, and was a 1976 graduate of Jackson Central Merry High School. He completed two years of college at Lambuth College, Jackson, Tennessee.

Growing up, Pete was passionate about baseball and basketball. He played on several teams as a youth, including Little League Men’s Club. His friends remember him as a star pitcher who gave opposing teams lots of trouble. Summertime days on Neff Street and Fowler Alley were filled with friends in the backyard playing basketball.

Because of his technical knowledge and love for electronics, Elliott was employed at Westinghouse in Alamo, Tennessee, for many years as a drafting designer. After moving to Memphis, he was a lead draft designer at Lawn Boy-Toro. His last place of employment was at Flex Electronics, until his retirement.

Elliott leaves behind to cherish precious memories his loving and devoted wife of twenty-eight years, Pauletta McGoughy. To that beautiful union, they were blessed with a son, Myles Elliott McGoughy of Starkville, Mississippi, and two daughters, Megan Monique McGoughy and Morgan Marletta McGoughy of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Pete will also be missed by his brother, Bobby Lee (Luann) McGoughy, Sr., of Brownsville, Tennessee, and two sisters, Annie McGoughy Hughes and Markieta Lynn McGoughy of Jackson, Tennessee. He also leaves several aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pete loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings in Jackson, Tennessee, Nettleton and Okolona, Mississippi.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Brown Baptist Church, 980 Stateline Road, Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Brown Baptist Church located at 980 Stateline Road Memphis, Tennessee 38116.
