Funeral services for Mr. Calvin F. Cain, 75, of 745 Bryan Drive, Orangeburg, SC, will be held 12:00pm, Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, with interment to follow in Belleville Memorial Gardens. Rev. Robert Shuler and Rev. Eddie C. Williams are officiating.

Mr. Calvin (Baby Joe) Franklin Cain passed unto eternal rest on Monday, July 3, 2023 at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Cain was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on March 15, 1948, to the late Mr. Joseph Cain & Mrs. Ruby Bush Cain.

He was educated in the Orangeburg county school system and later graduated from Wilkinson High School Class of 1968. He became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina at an early age, where he served as a member of the United Methodist Men. He was employed as a Machinist at Mayer Industries in Orangeburg, South Carolina where he gave faithful and dedicated service for over 32 years until he retired in 2001.

Calvin was an All-Star Athlete as shown by his outstanding football, baseball, basketball, track, and tennis involvement. If he had not been injured, he had aspirations for a professional football career in the NFL. His love of sports continued as a player for his company’s baseball team, Mayer Industries. After retirement, he was a dedicated coach of the Yellow Jackets and Hot Boys baseball team of Rowesville, South Carolina for many years; his love for sports was also on display in his fervent support of his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

His love of community and social justice was formed early when he as a teen participated in the protest of the Orangeburg Massacre alongside his friend, Delano Middleton.

He was united in matrimony to Mrs. Joanne Cramer Cain. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, the Late Furman Cramer, Sr. and Lurline Cramer; one sister, Alice Shuler; three brothers, Nathaniel Cain, Bobby (Jeanette) Cain, and Harry Cain; one brother-in-law, Furman Cramer Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Vera Shuler.

To cherish his everlasting memories, Calvin leaves: his loving wife, Joanne Cain; four children, Constance Cain of Houston, Texas, Leonarde (Jenniferr) Cain and Syetta (Derrick) Franklin of Columbia, South Carolina, and Calvin J. Cain of Atlanta, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Justin Williams, Lendrianna Cain, Jaylen Stroman, Jordon Franklin, Cameron Cain, Chance Cain, Lauryn Franklin, Nobel Thompsonel and Noah Cain; one brother, Billy Cain; three sisters, Carolyn (Trevor) Sanders-James of Port Orange, Florida, Palmer (Harry) Felder, and Harriett (the late Willie) Shuler of Orangeburg, South Carolina; three brother in laws, Jerome Cramer of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Michael Cramer of Seattle, Washington, and Gregory Cramer of Columbia, South Carolina; three sister in laws, Mary (Samuel) Owens, Lavern (Clinton) Tyler, Theresa (the late Robert) Zimmerman, all of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 1:00pm - 6:00pm.
