Michael Douglas Perry, SR. was born on August 5, 1953, in Durham, NC to the late Melvin Perry Sr. and the late Georgia Wall Perry. Deacon Perry took his rest from his earthly labor on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Deacon Perry's early childhood education was in Durham Public Schools, and New York City Public School System. After Graduating from Grover Cleveland High School Class of 71, he joined the US Marine Corp, serving his country from June 25, 1971 through January 24, 1977. Upon his honorable discharge, Michael and family relocated to Los Angeles, California and furthered his education at UCLA, obtaining a degree in Political Science.
Deacon Perry worked many years at Lockheed Martin California, where he helped build stealth planes. Deacon Perry retired from MARTA in 2016. At the beginning of his spiritual journey while in Brooklyn N.Y. he attended St. Anthony's Baptist Church. After relocating to Georgia, he joined Divine Faith Ministries International (DFMI) in Jonesboro, GA. At DFMI he served as a member of the men's choir, the parking lot ministry and the transportation ministry. Michael ultimately accepted the call to the work of a Deacon, he proudly served faithfully Deacon Perry was a Godly man with a kind and loving spirit which earned him the title as pops with his children's friends. He is affectionately known as "Pops & Big Mike". He was loved by everyone he encountered, and would teach you a few things about life in the process. When Deacon Perry was not serving in ministry, he could be found spending time with his family. Michael adored his family; his grandchildren were very special to him. Michael loved spending time with his wife the love of his life for over 53 years; listening to music, anything history and a sports fanatic; and he was a devout Raiders fan. Deacon Perry, was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Sandra E. Perry, father Melvin Perry, Sr and mother Georgia W. Perry; He leaves to cherish his memories his mother-in-love Evangelist Mary E. Felix of Decatur, Georgia: his children. Tamara Delph of Odenton. Maryland: Michael D. Perry II (La Keisha) of McDonough, GA; Yolanda Hoy of Brooklyn, NY; Geraldine Andre (Djivenino) of McDonough, GA, Angela Hanks(Chad) of Fayetteville, NC; 2 brothers, Ronald Perry of Knightdale, NC; Dwayne Perry (Thomasine) of Raleigh. NC: God Brother Johnny McGill. Morrisville. NC: 3 sisters. Rev. B. Gail Whitfield (Stanley), Doris Perry, both of Durham, NC: Francis Everette of Fayetteville, NC; ten grandchildren: La Niya Brown, Nafatearia Horton. Avarius Delph. Chancellor Delph. Azariah Delph. Kimora Cole, Malachi Andre, Mordecai Andre, Solange Hanks and Jacoby Paquin;
