Mrs. Margaret Elizbeth Brower Allmond passed away peacefully at Randolph Hospice House on July 30, 2023, with family members by her side in Asheboro, NC at the age of 93. Margaret was predeceased by her devoted husband, Delatha, in 1994, and a beloved grandson, Christopher Allmond, in 2022.

She was born on March 26, 1930, in Bear Creek, NC to the late Lane and Anabelle Foushee Brower. The family relocated to Robbins, NC where she grew up. Margaret was the baby girl of the family with seven older brothers and four older sisters, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Margaret completed her high school education at Carthage High School in Carthage, NC. Within a few years after her high school graduation, she would marry the love of her life the late Delatha Allmond. The couple began married life in Robbins, NC, but shortly moved to Asheboro, NC and eventually established long term residence on Tucker Street in Asheboro. To Margaret and Delatha loving and unshakable union of 43 years were born five girls and two boys.

Confessing Christ at an early age, Margaret became a member of New Zion African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church in Robbins, NC. After marriage and relocating to Asheboro, NC, she, and her husband would become life-long members of the Church of God of Prophecy (Kingdom Life Community Church). They were active supporters of the Church’s mission and activities through volunteering their time and resources. Margaret often hosted and prepared meals for the minister of the church, visiting ministers and their families in the Allmond home.

Possessed with an abundance of energy and organizational skills, Margaret was able to effectively manage the demands of taking care of a family and completing a career of employment with Bossong Hosiery Mills Incorporated in Asheboro, NC. After retirement from her manufacturing job, she worked with organizations that aided seniors in the community which contributed to her passion for providing service to others in need.

Margaret was a skillful cook who loved preparing meals for family and friends. Her Thanksgiving Day meals were legendary with family and friends. Margaret’s turkey dressing, yams, strawberry nut cake, black berry dumplings and persimmon pie were must sample dishes and favorites in her household and at family reunions. She had a flair for storytelling and could be counted on for a humorous story during family time or reunions. Margaret could also be classified as having the proverbial green thumb as she was very adept at growing vegetables and flowers. She was a decerning shopper with a keen sense for finding the best deals whether in stores or yard sales, and she instilled in her daughters to do the same.

Passionate about cross generational relationships and connections, Margaret was an ardent supporter and participant in family reunions and gatherings involving the Brower and Allmond families. Until her health began to fail, Margaret visited and laid flowers on the graves of Brower family members in Robbins, NC, to include her mother-in-law, during the New Zion AME Zion Church Annual Memorial Observance Day event.

Margaret is survived by seven children: Peggy (Ira)Watkins of Fayetteville; Jacqueline “Jackie” Curry of Asheboro; Cedric (Brenda) Allmond of Asheboro; Gwendolyn “Gwen” (Anthony) Siler of Asheboro; Dexter (Loretta) Allmond of Asheboro; Sandra “Peaches” (Raleigh) Bagley of Blackstone, VA; and Jonita (Tyrone) Bracey of Indian Head, MD; she is also survived by twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Kingdom Life Community Church, 527 Cross Street. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1120 Old Cedar Falls Road.
