Reverend Issac B. Barnwell

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Gardner Grove Baptist Church (3509 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA) with Rev. Dr. Rufus Copeland Sr., officiating. The family will host a repast following the service at the church. A private committal service will be held at a later date.

Rev. Issac Blair Barnwell was born in Augusta, GA., on October 13, 1956, to Katherine Ludel Blair Balentine and Issac Roland. He was blessed to have Roscoe Barnwell and Leroy Balentine Jr. as fathers and role models after his mother remarried. Issac was known to many as, “Jimmy.” Issac departed this life on July 28, 2023, in Augusta, Georgia.

He was the second born of four siblings. He was the proud father to Issac Lavert Barnwell, Savannah, GA, Christopher Michael Barnwell, Kimberly Patrice Burley-Curry, Darius Johnson, Dorothy Burley, Jasmine Burley and Jessica Burley all of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by three brothers, Rev Mark (Crystal) Barnwell, Arnold Blair both of Augusta, GA and Ronnie Seibert of Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany; one sister Linda Hope Barnwell Quinn; sister-in-law, Sherrika Ricks, Decatur, Alabama; aunts, Rev. Debra Cooper and Doris Sullivan of Augusta, GA; Mary Balentine of Dover, Delaware, Dorothy Louise (George) Woods of Cleveland, Ohio, Eulylia G. Balentine of Huntsville, Alabama and Vernette (Anthony) Elliott of Madison, Annie Mae Balentine of Decatur, Alabama; godbrothers and godsisters, Adrienne Robinson, Jackie Safford, Avery Keith Dunn, and Olivia Yarbray, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rev. Barnwell was called and humbly accepted his calling to preach the Gospel on the fourth Sunday in September, 1986 under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Dr. Rufus Copeland, pastor of Gardner Grove Baptist Church, Augusta Georgia. He continued to enhance his calling by attending the American Theological Seminary and Beacon University where he obtained his associate degree in Theological Studies. Rev. Barnwell was called to shepherd the flock at the New Hope Baptist Church in Plum Branch, SC from 1990 to 2000. He later accepted the role of Co-Pastor of the Fielding Spring Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia, and pastored Bark Camp Baptist Church in Midville, GA.

Rev. Barnwell was a graduate of Westside High School in Augusta, Georgia and served in the U.S. Army. Issac was a former employee of the Richmond County Board of Education and SSC Service Solutions. Rev. Barnwell’s hobbies were restoring old houses and saving souls for Jesus Christ.
