Obituary For Deacon Ervin Hairston

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, Deacon Ervin Hairston 94, of Park Ln., Martinsville, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. He was born in Virginia on April 13, 1929, the son of the late Burgess Hairston, and the late Ruby Waller Hairston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Bondurant, and one granddaughter, Teneka Dodson.

Deacon Ervin Hairston was a faithful member of the Shiloh Way of the Cross Church International where he served in various capacities within the church. He served as a Deacon, the Brotherhood, the Male Chorus, and was a former Trustee. He retired after twenty-seven years of service with E.I. Dupont.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Indiana Strickland Hairston of the home; one daughter, Ervette Hylton (Jeffrey) of Martinsville, VA; two sons, Desmal “Dez” Hairston of Martinsville, VA, and Dennis Hairston of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Hairston of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Gertrude Cook of Washington, DC, and Mable Pritchett of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:30 until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at Shiloh Way of the Cross Church International, 938 Brookdale St., Martinsville with Presiding Bishop Early Dillard, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park,103 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 321 Park Ln., Martinsville between the hours of 12 noon until 6 p.m. daily.
