Miss Donna Elaine Long was born on January 7, 1966, in Asheville, North Carolina to Ms. Ernestine F. Long and Mr. William Chester Long, Sr.
Donna was a lifelong learner and loved the school atmosphere. She attended Asheville High School and graduated with the Class of 1984 where she was a star basketball and softball player for the Cougars. In 2002, she would graduate Magnum Cum Laude from Savannah State University and received her Bachelors in Criminal Justice with a Psychology Minor. She then went on to earn two Masters degrees - Masters of Education with a concentration in Counseling in 2005 from Georgia Southern University and a Masters of Public Adminstration with a concentration of Human Resources in 2012 from Savannah State University.
She was a wonderful mother and D-Ma, who supported her children and grandchildren through all life’s obstacles and celebrations. She was a well-loved member of the community in Savannah, Georgia where she impacted the lives of many through her 29 years of service as a leader in the Parks and Recreation Department as well as the Sanitation Department for the City of Savannah. Donna was also an active member of Connexion Church. She has touched the lives of many, and she will surely be missed.
Donna Long is survived by her mother- Ernestine F. Long, her brothers – Michael Long and Christopher (Chuck) Williams (LaShanda). Her children, Alvin (Kenny) Davis, Jr (Ramona Higgins-Davis) and Kiona L. Davis. Two beautiful granddaughters Aurelia and Marisela Davis. Nieces Anna and Jill Smith as well as nephews Krishon and Nicolas Williams and a great nephew Kaishon Williams. Her best four-legged friend, Nikos. And a host of cousins, uncles, aunts, friends, neighbors, church and bike family.
Donna Elaine Long, age 57, sadly passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly on Monday, August 14th in Savannah, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father William Chester Long, Sr and her older brother William Chester Long, Jr.
She will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. We would love you to come and honor her life at the funeral service that will be held in Asheville, North Carolina on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Jessie Ray Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. Followed by a Memorial Service in Savannah, Georgia on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at a location to still be determined.
