Two of my most shared memories were with Howard. We were shadowboxing on horseback in Chickamauga Park when I fell and broke my wrist. Another day we were riding at Brushy Branch and stopped to eat a snack. AW asked what kind of cheese crackers I had. I said wheat. several minutes later just out of the blue Howard hollers wheat. We all laughed and for many years would randomly holler wheat as an insider joke. He will be missed but promise not forgotten - Rick Daffron.

Howard was a friend and fellow officer. He was fun to be around, and the public and his fellow officers respected him. I don't think I ever received a complaint on Howard. I am glad I could spend time with him and one his daughters this past Christmas. My life has been made richer having known and worked with this jolly giant of a man. Jim Free
