Donald Lee Chavers

Passed 08/15/2023

Donald Lee Chavers, 63 A resident of Montgomery, Al passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Graveside services were held Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Woodley Memorial Gardens with devotion and prayer led by Pastor Quinton Byrd of Freewill Baptist Church.

Donald was a joyful and happy person. Always laughing, smiling, and dancing. Anyone who knew him, knew he was strong willed, didn’t like being told what to do and certainly didn’t like rules. He spent much of his younger life at his grandmother’s house (355-lower forty) surrounded by his Dad, uncles, and cousin’s. Telling stories, working on vehicles, listening to music, and standing up for what he thought was right—even if it ended in the occasional tiff. He never backed down, was always strong and stood tall. He lived hard- lived fast and in the end, he lived as only he knew how to. As the lyrics read from one of his favorite songs, ‘When I die and they lay me down to rest- gonna go to the place that’s the best, when they lay me down to die, I am going up to the spirit in the sky.” He can now rest easy with the spirit in the sky.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur Lee “LeRoy” Chavers and Mary Helen Fulmer Chavers Oates Lock, Mary Elizabeth Liles Chavers, daughter Baranda Middlebrooks, sister Jerry Lynn Chavers, Grandparents George Arthur Chavers, Lillie Mae Favors Chavers Cook, John David Cook, Grady and Bessie Fulmer.
