Obituary For Raymond Louis Swanson

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Raymond Louis Swanson, 75, of Cherry St., Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, Stuart, VA. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia on May 29, 1948, the son of Print Walter Swanson and Janie Lee Waller Swanson who preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his siblings, Bernard, Melvin, Lillian, Gloria, Johnny, and Kenneth.

Raymond was a member of Mt. Bethel Holiness Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He attended Albert Harris High School and later received his GED while serving in the United States Army. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years before retiring, and he was a disabled United States Vietnam Army Veteran.

He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: Print D. Swanson (Arlene) and Samuel D. Swanson all of Martinsville, VA, Lawrence J. Swanson (Teresa) of Danville, VA, Larry L. Swanson (Lori) of Richmond, VA, and James L. Swanson (Mary) of Leesburg, VA; sisters: Mildred Ward (Curt) of Williamsburg, VA, Myrtle R. Hodge (Jerry) of Atlanta, GA, Marie A. Carter (Lemon), Mary F. Dallas (Bruce), Margie Swanson, Mary Walker, and Barbara Johnson all of Martinsville, VA; special friend: Traci Herndon and family; grandson: Ny’Quarius Brim; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home. The burial will follow at the Swanson Family Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Axton, VA. A public viewing will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Lemon Carter, 261 Laurel Park Ave., Martinsville, VA.
