Deacon George Davis Sr. 95 entered into eternal rest on Wednesday September 13,2023.

Funeral Services for Deacon George Davis, Sr. 95 will be held Saturday September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Lilly, GA. Interment in the Vienna City Cemetery, Vienna GA.

Mr. George Davis, Sr., heeded the Roll Call of The Kingdom of Heaven and departed this life on September 13, 2023. The late Booker T. Davis and Hosie Baskin Davis introduced him to the world on December 4, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After his birth, his family moved back to Unadilla, Georgia, where he was raised on the family farm. He was the second of seven children, Roy Lee (deceased), John Riley (Deceased), Sheddie (deceased), Charlie L. (deceased), Lillian (deceased), Lillie May (deceased), and Susie Kate (Plenty). β€œDeacon George,” as he was affectionately known, loved his church, his family, and his community of Vienna and surrounding areas, where he spent his adult years. George was baptized at Big Poplar Springs Baptist Church at a very early age. As an adult, he joined the Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Lilly, Georgia, where he served faithfully and with pride until his health failed. Deacon George served as chairman of the Deacon Board, superintendent of Sunday School, and was a mentor to many young men and women who came through the doors of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. He was instrumental in the growth of the church in every way possible. He headed up numerous fundraising events for the Sunday School. Although he was unable to attend church services during his illness, Deacon George never failed to communicate with his fellow church members and keep up with church news. He was also dutiful to send his tithes every month. Although he attended public school in Dooly County, Georgia, he was only able to go as far as the third grade before having to stop school to work on the family farm. However, this did not mean he was not educated. Even though he did not read and write well, God blessed him with education that availed him to succeed. George began making a living for his family by farming and sharecropping. He worked for thirty years at Gold Kist Corporation in Cordele, Georgia. He also was an entrepreneur and owner of The George Davis Family Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Stand each year for well over forty years at the Cordele Produce Market. In addition, his mobile food store visited many streets and homes when he sold fresh fruits and vegetables from the back of his truck to everyone in the county and beyond. George married Ethel Mae Lee on December 7, 1948, and was married for fifty-five years until her untimely death in 2003. To this union, eleven children were born. Two were lost in childbirth and he was also preceeded in death by their two eldest children, George Davis, Jr. (Arthenia), and Christine Davis. Deacon George was the father of Tommy Jackson and Alphonso Jackson (both deceased). He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a devoted sister, Susie Kate Whitehead (Plenty) of Miami, FL; four sons, Lonnie C. Davis of Vienna, GA, Willie James Davis (Jennifer Renee) of Vienna, GA, Johnny Lee Davis (Mamie) of Montgomery, AL, and Joseph Lewis Davis (Suzette) of Stone Mountain, GA; three daughters, Alice Davis Porter (Robert) of Decatur, GA, Ethel Davis Berksteiner (Earl) of Savannah, GA, and Louise Davis Smith (Vernon) of McDonough, GA; fourteen grandchildren; twentyone great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many, many, many precious other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Mrs. Betty Daniel (personal chef), Ms. Nyoka Hunt, and Ms. Wanda Mathis for all their dedication and hard work with taking care of Deacon George Davis, Sr., during his illness. God blesses the hands that do His work. β€œAll the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing night passed; I am now at peace forever, safely home in Heaven at last
