Obituary For Joseph R. Holland, Sr.

On Monday, September 18, 2023, Joseph Roosevelt Holland, Sr. 83, of Flatrock Dr., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at his residence. He was born in Virginia on January 22, 1940, the son of Joseph Basil Holland and Vera Ann Smith Holland who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, one great granddaughter, Hannah McCoy, and two brothers, Elijah Holland, and Jessie Holland.

Joseph was a member of the Galilean House of Worship. He retired from the Lester Group as a forklift operator after many years of service.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Emily R. Holland of the home; five daughters, Marilyn Holland, Delphine Hairston (Clarence), and Sharon Holland all of Martinsville, VA, Sabrina Tinsley (Reginald) of Eden, NC, and Edna D. Hunter (Minister Darryl) of Greensboro, NC; one son, Joseph R. Holland, Jr. of Madison, NC; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Muse, and Mary Prunty (Kenneth) both of Martinsville, VA; three brothers, Carlton Holland (Patricia), Harry Holland (Emma) and Elex Holland (Nancy) all of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Bishop Michael Penn, Eulogist. The burial will be private. A public viewing will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 90 Flat Rock Dr., Martinsville, VA. only between the hours of 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Please be respectful of the visiting hours. The family ask that when visiting you would observe all CDC guidelines.
