Obituary For Lawrence Elroy Reid

Mr. Lawrence Elroy Reid, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Lawrence Elroy Reid was born on May 1, 1935, in Wayne County, NC to the late Elder Lawrence and Minnie Belle Reid. Lawrence was affectionately called Buddy. He was the youngest of two children. Lawrence attended the public school system in Wayne County. He left school early to join the United States Army in 1955. Lawrence served in the Korean War. In 1957, he was discharged and moved to Brooklyn, NY. Lawrence was a great cook. He enjoyed grilling pigs, frying turkeys and baking his favorite pineapple cake. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and singing the blues.

During an early marriage, four children were born, Gary, Angela, Lawrence Jr, and Lyle. Lawrence attended Columbia University in NY. He also attended University of Oklahoma at Norman Oklahoma FBI School. Lawrence worked 32 ½ years for the United States Postal Service. He worked in maintenance and then was a postal police with the postal service with a rank of Sargent. Lawrence traveled extensive as an inspector for USPS.

Lawrence met Anderine Crutchfield in September 1995 and they married in March 1999. As a result, he gained 3 stepchildren. Andre, Robert and Angela M. Johnson.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, sister Thelma Earlene Dew and son Lawrence Elroy Reid, Jr.

Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Anderine, daughter Angela R Wallace; sons Gary V Reid (Bonny) and Lyle Tamar Reid. Granddaughters Rena Ferrell (Barry), Angela Jamonica Clark (Kenneth), Sierra Reid and Alanah Reid and Grandson Wayne Wallace (Victoria), 3 stepchildren Andre, Robert, Angel and 4 step grandchildren Asia, Ariss, Aiden Crutchfield, and Xavier J Whitsett. 11 great grandchildren and 3 great grand stepchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service honoring his life will be held on September 29, 2023 at 12:00 PM in the Cassie Coote -Brown Memorial Chapel located at 909 East Market St. Greensboro, NC 27401, visitation will begin at 11:30 AM.

Interment will be held at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, NC 27282,

Just learned about my cousin Lawrence" Buddy" as he is affectionately known. I send sincere condolences to the family. A Family commitment won't allow me to attend the services. You are now with our mom Earlene Grandma Minnie Bell and Granddaddy Lawrence until we meet again" from Veronica, Sylvester, Melva your nieces and nephew. And also a family of great nieces and nephew, Samuel, Lawrence, Eric, Khadijah, and Calvin, Tyece and Fonzay and all others! RIP! Uncle Buddy!
