Funeral service for Desmond Stinson, 35, of Opelika, AL, will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Garden Hills Cemetery, Elder Clayton Alexander will officiate.

Mr. Stinson, who passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL, was born May 6, 1988, in Lee County, Alabama.

Public viewing will be Friday, September 22, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

“Pooh” as he was affectionately known, graduated from Opelika High School Class of 2006. He was employed with Hanwha until he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2015. After being diagnosed, he became an advocate for healthy kidneys.

Pooh loved watching and cheering for his favorite team, Louisiana State University (LSU). He enjoyed cooking, gaming, coaching little league and coaching his children in sports. Family and being a father was the joy of his life, nothing could compare to Moni, Kayden and Skye. He was an active and proud dad for his “babies”, he was present for school, sports and family time.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Ka’moni Stinson, De’Kayden Stinson and Skye Stinson all of Opelika, AL; parents, Greta (Jefferson) Payne of Opelika, AL and David (Jamilla) Monroe of Atlanta, GA; six siblings, Gerald Stinson, Vincent Monroe, Markeisha Lowe, Omar Monroe, Otis Monroe and Jordyn Monroe; maternal grandmother, Selena Bass of Auburn, AL; paternal grandmother, Mattie Monroe of Waverly, AL; cousin as a big sister, Saundra “Keisha” Williams; nine uncles, Gregory (Sandra) Stinson, Craig Stinson, Eric (Claudette) Stinson, Calvin (Linda) Payne, Alvin Payne, Niel Monroe, Omar Monroe, Cleveland Clemons and Baptise Clemons; eight aunts, Joann Dowdell, Mary Charlot, Gwendoyln (James) Thompson, Dorthea (Mike) Davis, Ann Gales, Sandra McKissic, Vannessa Sager and Marion Barksdale; three great-uncles, James (Mary) Stinson, Morrell (Betty) Stinson and Henry Stinson; one great-aunt, Sandra Stinson Williams; three great-great-aunts, Jeanette Welch, Cassie Singleton and Odessa Stinson; two special aunts, Shirley Bell Mitchell and Nichole Godfrey; mother of his children, Shunedra Edwards; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates and friends.
