MRS. SHIRLEY MAE RAINEY HICKS, daughter of the late Mary Henry Rainey Whittle and the late James Whittle, was born June 7, 1953 in Lunenburg County, VA and departed this life September 14, 2023 at her home in Lawrenceville, VA.

At an early age Shirley was baptized at New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, VA. She attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools.

In December of 1972 Shirley married Thomas J. Hicks. She was employed at Jones Apparel for many years until her health began to fail.

Shirley leaves to mourn: husband- Thomas J. Hicks of South Hill, VA; two sons- Thomas Allen Whittle of Monnie, WI and Willie Lee Whittle of South Hill, VA; two grandchildren; two brothers- Otis Whittle of Stoney Creek, VA and George Rainey of South Hill, VA; brother-in-law, Herman Hicks; sister-in-law, Shirley Hicks both of Baskerville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
