Obituary For Ima Jean McCowan

Ima Jean McCowan gained her wings on Saturday, September 30, 2023, with her family by her side.

Ima Jean Tinsley McCowan was born November 4, 1942, to Shafter and Fannie Thompson Tinsley and reared in Flat Lick, Kentucky. She accepted Jesus Christ as a child and served the Hamilton Chapel Baptist Church until she left to go to nursing school in 1960. While attending nursing school in Danville, Kentucky, she met Matthew “Pete” McCowan whom she married in 1961. Their marriage lasted 59 years until Matthew’s death in 2020. They were loving parents to Priscilla McCowan, Carla McCowan-Alston, Mavis McCowan, and Meredith McCowan.

In addition to her husband, she was pre-deceased by her daughter Meredith, who died of SIDS as an infant, her parents, siblings Alfred Thompson, Hazel Juanita Tinsley Clark and her husband John Clark, Roselle Tinsley and his wife Barbara Tinsley, Richard Tinsley (Peggy), and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ima Jean leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Priscilla McCowan, Carla McCowan-Alston (Reginald), and Mavis McCowan, two grandsons, David Alston, and Daniel Alston, two aunts, Joy Ella Boulware and Opal Tinsley, sister in love Peggy Tinsley, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Walnut Street, Danville, Kentucky. Dr. Darrick Briscoe, Officiating.

Visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., until time of the service at 12:30 p.m.

Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine Co. Kentucky.

Ladies', hats are encouraged to honor Sis. Ima Jean.
