Hilton Cheevers

The funeral services for the late Mr. Hilton Cheevers, who departed this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Macedonia Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia. Reverend Dr. Lester Knox, Pastor, will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden Cemetery, Sylvester, Georgia. Services may be viewed Facebook Live from the “Shipp's Funeral Home” Facebook page or by clicking the Video Stream link on this site's Home Page. The family will greet and receive friends on Friday evening, October 13, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hilton Cheevers was born April 7, 1939, in Worth County, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Nover Lee, Sr. and Lillie Pearl Bronner Cheevers.

He retired from the Sylvester Housing Authority as a Maintenance Supervisor after 33 years of service. He was an entrepreneur who provided handyman services (plumbing, carpentry, gas, electrical, etc.) to members of the community for over 40 years. He was known for his wisdom, generosity, and sense of humor.

At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and attended Miller’s Chapel AME Church in Sumner, GA as a child. Later in his life, Hilton was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member until his health declined.

On Wednesday evening, October 4, 2023, Hilton answered the Master’s Call surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Lanier Cheevers and Stephen Bruce, Jr.; parents, Nover Lee, Sr. and Lille Pearl Cheevers; brothers, Milton, Nover Lee, Jr., Willie Albert, and Raliegh Cheevers.

Hilton leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life to his devoted wife of 58 years- Virginia Richardson Cheevers; his children, Patricia Kay Booth (Carl) of Pahokee, FL, Melvin J. Powell (Saudia), Hilton Lanier “Neil” Cheevers, Derek Manuel (Christina), Tracy Cheevers (Latecia), all of Sylvester, GA, and Lynderia “Lyn” S. Cheevers Inah (LeoFisher S.)of Manila, Philippines; 23 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Ira Cheevers (Diane), of Sylvester, GA; sisters-in-law, Geneva Sabree of Albany, GA, Cherry Cheevers, Tonya Cheevers, both of Sylvester, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
