Willie Edward Sims, of Paterson, New Jersey, died October 5, 2023. He was was born December 18, 1947 in Goochland, Virginia to the late Rosa Lee Johnson and Willie E. Sims.

Willie relocated to Hackensack, New Jersey at a young age to live with his grandmother. He graduated from Hackensack High School.

He enjoyed his career as a local truck driver until his retirement from Kraft General Foods.

After being introduced by his friend, her brother, Willie was married to the love of his life, Joan Willis, for forty-one years.

Brother Sims was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Willie was also preceded in death by his son, Willie Edward Sims Jr.; brother, Sam Johnson Jr. and sister, Addie Mae Mitchell.

He leaves to cherish loving memories his devoted wife, Joan Sims; two sons, Steven Sims and Shawn Sims, both of Miami, Florida; one bonus son, Garey Gardner; two bonus daughters, Sharon Gardner and Sabrina Leon (Christian); nine grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Tyler (Alex) and Rosa Robinson (Earl); two brothers, Theodore Sims and Thomas Sims (Linda); goddaughter, Nicole Willis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to include his best man and dear friend, Harry Mitchell; devoted friends, Nate, Issaic Simmons and Jimmy Pittman, and his beloved Black Cat, Honey.

Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 followed by a graveside service at 12 noon at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue.
