Yolanda Marshall Savage-Lyons was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Floyd and Annette (Garmon) Marshall, Sr. She was one of five children. Yolanda’s siblings include Kenneth (deceased), Duane, Floyd Jr. and Charlotte.
As a child, Yolanda attended Trinity Temple United Methodist Church where she served as a junior usher and sang on the Youth Choir.
Yolanda received her education in the Philadelphia School System. She enjoyed running track throughout her school years and was an award-winning track and field athlete at Simon Gratz High School until she graduated in 1980.
She later became a proud mother of Tanisha, Janaire, Jamiel, Jenelle and Kevin.
Yolanda had a great personality, many friends, and a fun-loving spirit. She was a giving and caring person and always known for trying to make life better for others. She loved to dance and was always the life of the party. Yolanda encountered some struggles in her life and needed a geographic relocation and with the support of f her brother (Duane M.) and a loving and caring friend (Darrell L.), Yolanda moved to Harrisburg, PA in 1989.
She became involved in a 12- step program. Yolanda embraced the 12-Step program and was an avid participant in all the functions, conventions and served on panels, committees, in groups and helped many others. She had 28 years of recovery, which is free from drugs and alcohol.
Yolanda had a desire to work in the helping field which led to a 15-year career at The Havens and Blue Ridge Nursing Home caring for elderly. Her passion for helping individuals in active addictions gave way to her gaining nine years of employment with Lancaster Harm Reduction Agency until she fell ill.
She became a grandmother to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren of which she loved, doted on, and often bragged about as the apples of her eyes.
Yolanda met Donald Lyons and after a courtship of eight years they were married on July 7, 2018 and expanded the family with Donald Jr. and Carl Demar. Donald and Yolanda found a spiritual haven at From The Heart Church Ministries in Harrisburg, PA.
She peacefully departed this life surrounded by family and friends on October 17, 2023. Yolanda leaves to cherish memories of her, her devoted husband, Donald Lyons; her children, Tanisha, Janaire, Jamiel, Jenelle and Kevin; her stepsons, Amir, Donald Jr. and Carl; her siblings, Duane, Floyd Jr. (Tracey), Charlotte and Gregory; her seven grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends that loved and cared for her throughout the years. She was a pillar and a predecessor within the community giving of herself and her time gladly and readily to all those that knew her.
Yolanda's life will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Friday, October 27, 2023 in the Sanctuary of From The Heart Church Ministries, 1300 Wayne Street, Harrisburg with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon.
