Furman Funchess Tisdale, Jr. was born on January 16, 1948, in Farmville, Virginia to the late Mr. Furman Tisdale, Sr. and Mrs. Louise Tisdale. He is also preceded in death by his son, Furman F. Tisdale, III.
Furman was a graduate of St. Augustine College, Raleigh, North Carolina where he earned his B.S. in Physical Education Degree. During his tenure, he was inducted into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and later the Gamma Omicron Chapter. He was one of the organizing members to start a chapter in Leonardtown, Maryland and served as Vice President until relocating to Valdosta, Georgia. He retired from the Homeland Security-Department of Labor, Washington, D.C.
At an early age he joined Silone Baptist Church, Chase City, Virginia. He was an active member and served on the Youth and Senior Usher ministries and participated in several Christmas and Easter programs. Later, Furman united with First Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington Park, Maryland as a watch care member and served on the Church Security Officer Ministry. After retirement, he moved to Valdosta, Georgia and joined Morning Star Baptist Church and assisted with the Food Pantry Ministry.
Furman was called to eternal rest on November 15, 2023 at the Canterbury Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Richmond, VA.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted partner of 17 years, Peggy A. Tisdale, two stepsons, Norman Robinson (Sabrina) of Fredericksburg, VA; and John Robinson (Kelila) of Green Cove Springs, FL; one brother-in-law, Alfred Boyd of Chase City, VA; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; brother, Charles Tisdale (Karalynda) of Pittsburg, PA; sister, Kathryn Nelson (Alvin) of Richmond, VA; one aunt, Ida Walker of Philadelphia, PA; also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
The celebration of life service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1051 Howell Road, Valdosta, GA 31601. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens, 3945 N. Valdosta Rd., Valdosta, GA 31602. Pastor Naaman Hooker, officiating.
Public viewing will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
