Cindy Asher

12/03/1953 - 11/14/2023

Cindy Asher, 69, of Elephant Butte, NM passed away November 14, 2023 with her husband, both sons, daughter-in-law, and three granddaughters at her side.

The third of six children, Cindy was born in Monterey, CA on December 3, 1953.

In 1977, Cindy moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she met Douglas Asher. The two were married on October 25, 1985. The couple lived in Albuquerque for 31 years and raised two children, David and Steven. The family was actively involved in Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church both sons as altar servers. Cindy and Doug taught church classes for over 26 years. They began teaching First Communion classes at Sangre de Cristo and later at John XXIII Catholic Church. They moved to Elephant Butte in 2016 and continued to teach at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

After the move, Cindy and Douglas were parishioners and volunteers at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Cindy’s life was defined by service to God, her family, and her community and she could not have been a better reflection of the namesake of their new church. She also volunteered at the local NM Veterans Home and Truth or Consequences Senior Center. She was never still and spent any spare minute caring for family, volunteering for her church or community, or helping friends. She rarely took time for herself and instead took pleasure from helping those around her.

Cindy very much enjoyed visiting and being visited by her three granddaughters and there was rarely a single day when one of them didn’t call or FaceTime her to talk about their day or ask for help on homework. The connection between her and the girls was unbelievable, and they’ll remember her unconditional love for the rest of their lives.

Cindy is survived by her husband Douglas Asher; children: Steven Asher, David Asher and wife Lacey; three grandchildren: Christine Asher, Lily Asher, and Evelyn Asher. She is also survived by her siblings: Lucy Flores, Frank Favaloro, Joseph Favaloro, Terry Hodges and husband Hal, and Jimmy Favaloro and wife Leilani.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (515 N Date St, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901) starting with a Rosary on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 5:00 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Cindy will be laid to rest at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery.
