Mr. Robert Lee Spann was born April 12, 1954, in Sardis, MS to the late Clyde and Jessie Spann and preceded by James and Lynn Spann.

Robert accepted Christ into his life at an early age at Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sardis, MS.

On April 12, 1952, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Lee Lester, and from this union, they had 9 beautiful children. Robert and Dorothy were happily married for 54 years until her passing.

During his life, Robert strived to provide comfort, stability, and opportunity for his family. In 1952, he began working at J.Q West Farm. Between the years of 1952 and 1976, he worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and Desoto Furniture Company where he was the only black employee. Robert organized for Local Union 282 and held the seat of Union Steward.

In 1976 he was asked to join the International Union and traveled throughout the southern United States recruiting union members until he retired in 1991. He was a highly decorated leader, a loving family man, and a positive influence on all.

Robert's impactful life came to an end on November 17, 2025, when he passed peacefully at Baptist DeSoto in Horn Lake, Mississippi.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy L. Spann along with daughters Dorothy Jean, and Margaret and beloved grandson Terry Green.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories 7 children Betty LaMarr, Georgia Bernice Spann, Robert Eugene (Minnie) Spann, Leo (Mattie) Spann, Leon (Earline) Spann, Linda (Alphonso) Leslie, Sherman (Shelia) Spann, Fifteen grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Robert leaves behind three beloved sisters Mary Spann, Betty (Hubert) Spann, and Mattie Ballentine, One brother Curtis (Maxine) Spann of Sardis, MS, and a host of nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 1, 2023 from 11:00am-11:55am with a Celebration of Life at 12:00noon both will be held at Brown Missionary Baptist Church 980 Stateline Road E, Southaven, MS 38671

Interment will be in New Park Memorial Gardens, 3900 Sewanee Rd, Memphis, TN 38109
