Hattie Mae Laney, 87, of Phenix City, AL passed on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in Phenix City, AL.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST (10:00 a.m CST) Saturday, December 9, 2023 at St. John AME Church in Fort Mitchell, AL with Rev. Samuel Smith, pastor, officiating and Pastor Kenneth Wilcox, eulogist. Burial in Pleasant Grove (Little Church) in Seale, AL. Public visitation will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 12-5 p.m. EST.

Hattie Mae Laney was born on September 03, 1936, in Birmingham, Al to Dennis and O’Bertha Harris. She relocated to Phenix City as a baby where she was raised by her devoted aunt and uncle, Roosevelt and Mamie Hensley. She joined Uchee Chapel AME Church at an early age and served very faithfully as an usher. Later in life, she joined True Light Ministries as a devoted member.

Hattie and William Laney, Jr were joined in holy matrimony on September 16, 1956. To this union four children were born. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. She built her life around helping people. She was a dedicated church goer until her health began to fail. She was a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan and made it a point to watch every game she could.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Dennis Harris, Jr and Stanley Simmons; and two sons, Baby Boy Laney and William Laney III.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband William Laney, Jr; daughter Deborah (James) Golden; son Charles (Catrena) Laney all of Phenix City, AL; daughter-in-law Mary Laney of Panama City, Fl. Grandchildren; Keltrick Jakes, Terrance (Irene) Laney, Twanna Golden, Traveon (Melody) Laney, and Melissa (Terrance) Lewis all of Phenix City, AL; Malissa Smith, Valerie Middleton, and Billy Laney all of Panama City, FL; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother William (Alma) Simmons of Birmingham, AL; brothers-in-law Robert (Delois) Laney, Sr. of Birmingham, AL and Paul (Willie Mae) Laney of Neptune, NJ; a devoted aunt Martha Harris of Seale, AL; devoted niece Patricia (Allen) Pazant of Birmingham, AL; a devoted family friend, Cassandra (Tyrone) Washington whom she loved as a daughter of Phenix City, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
