Mrs. Verna Jay McKee

Mrs. Verna Jay McKee, 73, of Gadsden, passed away on December 19, 2023. She is survived by her loving family.

Verna Jay McKee was born on June 18, 1950 in Tampa, Florida, to the late, Mary C Watson & Edward
Gardner.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents: Edward Gardner (father) & Mary C. Watson (mother),
and Dewey Watson (stepfather); her grandmother, Elizabeth Harris, Special aunt, Doris Wilson;
sisters Jacquline Collins, Linda Watson Montana and brothers , Dewey Watson Jr , Emmanuel
Watson.

Verna graduated high school in Dallas Texas , at James Madison High School. She enjoyed nature
she loved her dog Zion , she loved sitting on the porch watching the birds fly by and watching her
husband plant Elephant ears which were her favorite plants. She loved taking trips to the nail salon
to get her favorite color maroon painted on her nails and toes every time. She also loved keeping
her hair braided up and done .

Verna was a part of the U.S Army for 9 years then went on to work at Mid-south electronics and Walmart for many years until she decided to be a stay at home wife.

To know her was to love her she prided herself on making sure everyone felt her presence when she
was around. She was full of laughter, life and love. She will forever be with us and in our hearts!

Verna leaves behind her loving, caring and devoted husband, Adam McKee ; daughter, Shevetta
McKee; special child / granddaughter Quiona Hunt, granddaughter, Amara Hammond; great
grandson, Hallow Kelly; sisters, Viveene Hale (Leonard) of Tampa,FL , Chyral Page of Miami, FL,
Mary (Libby) Watson Holmes of Tampa, FL; Cousin/sister Cozette Johnson (Leslie) of Dallas TX;
brothers , Thomas Watson of Tampa, FL and Darrell Green (Anna) of Dallas Texas; nieces, including
a devoted and caring niece Ysleta, Chawanza, Chavonne, Tumeka, Nakayae, Kaysoniee, April
(Marquez) Catrina, Geraldine, LaRhonda and Kewannie; nephews, Clarence, Waymond, George and Marvin Jr., special great- nephew London all of Tampa, FL, Tertius (Candi) McKee & Joel McKee of
Gadsden Alabama ; special niece, Nikki Dupree ; special friends, Kecia Perkins , Zack and Maggie
Dupree ; a host of other sorrowing nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other
relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be Tuesday, December 26, 2023 from 12noon-6pm.


Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 1:00pm at the West Gadsden Funeral Home (Betty D. Robinson Chapel).

Interment will be Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11am at the Alabama National Cemetery.
