On December 3, 1961, in Ashland, Alabama, Donald Sears Lindsey and Jo Catherine Hearn Lindsey welcomed a daughter, Vennie Verlinda. Most knew her as Verlinda.
Ms. Strickland’s upbringing was rooted in her faith in God. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Verlinda graduated from Lineville High School and continued her education at Ayers Technical School. One thing she found joy in was cooking. Additionally, she enjoyed listening to music, caring for others, she loved animals, sewing, coloring and of course once again she enjoyed cooking.
Verlinda was the loving mother of Kevin L. (Hannah) Strickland of Delta, Alabama and Kristie Pitts of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; dedicated daughter of Jo Catherine Lindsey; proud grandmother of Quintavious T. “Tater Bug” (Lindsey) Franks, Kameryn L. “BooBoo” Strickland, Haidyn “LaLa” Strickland and Kasyn “Byrd Man” Strickland; great grandmother to Loyalty King Franks and Serenity Rose Franks; sister to Martha A. Lindsey of Lineville, Alabama; niece of Martha “Bay” Hearn and Earnest Hearn; great niece of Ida Maude Hearn Nelson; aunt to Reginald “B. A.” Hearn Lindsey, Amelia “BeBe” Lindsey and Brooklyn Aaliyah Chatman; great aunt of Rylee C. “Lucy” Braswell and Brayson “Don Don” Jackson; special friend of Albert Edmondson, Eric Atchley and Michelle Lindsey; and will be greatly missed by a host of other relatives and friends.
On the evening of Friday, December 22, 2023, the Lord saw that Verlinda had gotten tired and called her to rest. She was preceded in passing by her father, Donald S. Lindsey.
