Willie Leroy Lewis
March 31, 1975 – December 22, 2023
“God Has Smiled on Me; He Has Set Me Free”
Willie Leroy Lewis was the youngest son of Willie Lee Lewis and Helen White Pearson. He was born March 31, 1975 in Madison, Florida, and resided there most of his life. However, during the past few years, he lived in Atlanta, Georgia.
Preceding Willie in death were both of his parents; his sisters, Rose Marie Lewis and Vanessa White; and his brother, Willie Lee Lewis, Jr.
Because of the health challenges that he lived with since birth, Willie’s world was unlike the one most are accustomed to. God knew that he could not travel this journey called life alone. Therefore, He instilled love, patience, understanding, and a dedicated medical team and family who enabled him to appreciate life and to demonstrate his own creativity. He loved life because it included music, especially rap music, more specifically that of Tupac and he was definitely a #1 fan of his.
When all was well, Willie was quiet, loving, giving, and drama-free. Likewise, he had a heart of gold. He loved his siblings, but had a special love for his nieces and nephews. However, because of the bond he and Teresa developed over the past three years that she was his caregiver and personal advocate, he would often amaze her by thanking her for taking care of him. For the times that he sensed that family members were somewhat stressed, he could get them to laugh by being a jokester.
On the other hand, one of Willie’s major dislikes was taking excessively long car rides, and he didn’t mind letting it be known.
In his own special way, Willie had his own connection with the Lord. It was not unusual for him to ‘breakout’ singing a church song as well as to have a little talk with Jesus; many times, he did so in the form of a rap. What mattered most was that God knew his heart.
When you lose a loved one, you gain an angel you know. Heaven has gained a real G-Tupac voice. On Friday, December 22, 2023, Willie Leroy Lewis, closed his eyes for the last time and entered into eternal rest. Willie’s rap has ended but the beat lingers on.
Willie Leroy Lewis left a legacy of love in the footprint of time, along with a vacant place in the hearts of his loved ones which can never be filled. Those who will forever cherish his memory are his brothers: Anthony Lewis of Ft. Pierce, FL, Willie McKnight of Madison, FL, Andre (Marrianna) of Melbourne, FL; sisters: Mary Bowling, of Melbourne, FL, Wendy Lewis White of Madison, FL, Cynthia (Ronald Scott) Harris, and Teresa Pearson of Atlanta, GA; aunts: Evelyn (Jimmy) Weatherspoon and Mae Etta Davis; uncle: Nathaniel White; special niece: Erika Johnson of Albany, GA; special cousin: Lisa Haynes; along with a host of other sorrowing relatives and caring friends.
