Richard Edward Montgomery was born in Anson County on June 18, 1960. He was the son of the late Daisy Montgomery Dockery and John Caple. He was a graduate of Anson Senior High School Class of 1978 and a retired textile Supervisor.
Richard, aka “Slick Rick”, “Ricky”, and most known as “Rick the Ruler” was a loving, kind, devoted and proud father. He loved his three daughters and grandson beyond measure. He attended almost every event they had, whether it was dance, band concerts or sporting events. He was their biggest cheerleader, oftentimes coaching their teams. He was loved by many and well known throughout the County of Anson.
He was a gentle man that would give anyone the shirt off his back. He carried a light that attracted many to him, never wanting to see anyone upset or sad. He was the life of any party, oftentimes being a diffuser of situations with his saying, “The main thing is don’t get excited”. He would announce his presence with “Rick the Ruler, standing tall looking good wish you were in Hollywood”. He is now resting at peace and smiling from ear to ear to finally be reunited with his long-lost love, his wife, Martha Sturdivant Montgomery.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one true love, Martha Sturdivant Montgomery, his parents, his siblings Kevin Dockery, Jean Montgomery, Carolyn Caple, John Caple, Marvin Caple, and Wayne Caple.
He leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters, Lacreeta Montgomery-Parsons of Indian Trail, NC; Deidra Montgomery of Raleigh, NC; and Cassie Marshall of Charlotte, NC.
