Charles Edward Geter

Charles Edward Geter, the seventh of eight children born to James Thomas, Sr. and Mable Gillespie Geter on May 19, 1951 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He peacefully transitioned on Friday, January 19, 2024 at his home with his sons by his side.

Charles was educated in the Knoxville City Schools System. He ran track, a long jumper and played football for the A-E Roadrunners. He graduated from Austin-East High School, Class of 1970. With his abilities he received a Track Scholarship from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville as a long jumper.

After 34 years of service, he retired from North Fork Railroad in 2014. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Cynthia Page Geter, parents, James and Mable Geter, Sr. five brothers, James, Jr., Walter, David, Herbert and John Geter; nephew David Geter, Jr. and other relatives. His memory will live on through his devoted sons, Charles, Jr and Christopher; loving sisters, Betty G. Batmon and Evelyn Geter; sisters-in-law, Chelita, Paulette and Clara Geter; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins to include the Gillespie, Cash and the Tate/Sanders families. Devoted friends who were like brothers to him, Bernard Drewery and Clarence Jackson; other special friends to include Brian Harvey, Rose Davis and Sylvia Glenn (the Get-Well Cards Ladies) and the 1970 Class of Austin-East High school.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 29, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Celebration of Life service to follow with Rev. Leroy Franklin officiating. The final resting place will immediately follow at the New Grey Cemetery. A dove release will conclude in his honor.

Charles was such a great guy. I remember when we would hang out at the end of my driveway with Brian,Bernard& Bruce. Those were great times as well as being great friends in school. Charles will be truly missed. GOD has another angel๐Ÿ’™
