Mr. Emmett K. Pritchett, 76, of Columbus, GA passed Monday, January 22, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. EST, Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus, GA with Rev. David Dawson, officiating. Public viewing will be 12-5 p.m.EST on Tuesday, January, 30, 2024.
Mr. Emmett Kelsey Pritchett Sr. was born August 3, 1947 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Aurthur Pritchett and Mary Johnson. Emmett accepted Christ in 1988 and joined New Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jesse Gary. He was ordained as Deacon and served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by both parents Aurthur Pritchett and Mary Johnson, his sister Flossie Vaughn and brother Willie Johnson. Emmett attended Carver High School in Columbus,Georgia, where he was a rising star on the Carver High basketball team, before being drafted into the United States Army. Emmett served in the Vietnam War and received the Combat InfantryMan Badge, National Defense Service Medal,Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal,Vietnam Service Medal, W/3 Bronze Service Star,Marksman (Rifle M-16), Sharp Shooter (Rifle M-D14) and 1st Capital Class Gunner(M-60 MG).
Emmett worked at Bibb Mill in Columbus, Georgia for 20 years. During those 20 years, he assumed a Leadership role as a Supervisor. He later retired from Columbus Ledger-Enquirer in Columbus, Georgia where he was a Machine Press Operator. During his employment with the Columbus Ledger Inquirer, Emmett received recognition for being Employee of the Month.
He is Survived by his devoted and loving wife of 40 years , Betty Pritchett of Columbus, Georgia, five daughters Bridget Adams, Sheena McCoy (Chris), Pamela Sears (Sam), Trina Sanks, Latisha Kendrick (Jerome), Three sons Emmett Kelsey Pritchett Jr., Jeremy Alexander, Marcus Alexander, one brother Eddie Pritchett, two sisters Shirley Cooper, Brenda Pritchett Sanford (Michael), three sister-in-laws Bertha White, Dora Richardson, Julia Johnson, four brother-in-laws Johnny Alexander(Josephine), Eddie Alexander(Carmen),Willie Alexander(Mary), and Richard Alexander(Barbara) and host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
