Mr. Roger Dean Jefferies, Sr.

Mr. Roger Dean Jefferies, Sr., 86, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on January 23, 2024. He was born late Daniel and Deaver Jefferies on April 16, 1937, in Shelby, NC, Called to join his heavenly father and his earthly parents, Daniel and Deaver Jefferies, he was also preceded in death by six sisters; Carrie, Lizzie, Rosa, Mary, Ruth and Gladys; three brothers; Louis (LD), Lucius (LJ) and Franklin.

Roger answered the call to serve his nation with humility and courage in the Army from February 1958 until February 1964. Following his honorable discharge, Roger entered into a career at Sealed Air Corporation for 30 years, where he served as the president of the union for a time. Upon his separation from Sealed Air, he worked for the Guilford County School System until his retirement. Throughout the years, Roger also owned a successful business, Jefferies Lawn Care. His integrity and diligent work ethic were a blessing to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Blessed with wisdom sought through higher education at N.C. A&T State University and GTCC. Roger applied his learned virtues in every aspect of his life. He was a member of Open Door Fellowship Church of Greensboro, NC where served as a Deacon, worked on the Usher Board, and faithful Trustee. Roger served as a beacon of light and a pillar of strength to his loved ones and community.

In the sanctuary of his home, Roger was a cherished husband to his beloved Dorothy, for 64 years and a guiding light to his sons: Roger Jefferies, Jr., Eric Jefferies, Sr., (Deborah), Darrell Jefferies, Sr., and Christopher Jefferies (Staurus); one sister, Freda Jefferies of New Jersey; one sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Shelby, NC; fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews. Roger’s sprit is now cradled in the loving arms of our creator.

Roger’s legacy is celebrated by his family, who find solace in the knowledge that his life was a testament to the virtues of gratitude, respect, and love. His life’s tapestry, woven with threads of love, kindness, and grace, remains a comfort to those he leaves behind.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
