Christopher "Chris" Jeter-Chandler, the son of Debra Jeter Hays and Herbert Lee Chandler, was born July 24, 1986 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was raised in Spartanburg, SC and lived a full, highly regarded life across the globe.
Chris served and retired from the U.S. Army after 14 years of service (2005-2019), serving multiple deployments and health-care related job assignments. Chris graduated from Spartanburg High School, American Military University (Bachelor of Science and Masters of Public Health), and University of Southern California (Masters in Social Work). He was a Social Worker and took his role as a Black Mental Health professional very seriously. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Chris loved cooking, traveling, and shopping. When he wasn’t volunteering and helping others, he was trying out new recipes, looking for the next city to explore, and/or adding to his Nike Foamposite collection. In fact, we had all come to expect his shirt, shoes, and hat to be the exact matching shade. His expectations were always high and he always understood the assignment.
Chris loved his family dearly, most recently returning home to Spartanburg to make up for lost time. He is survived by: both parents (mentioned above); one sister: Stephanie Jeter; three brothers: Stephen Jeter, Derious (Shawnta) Chandler, and Adrian Chandler;Ryan Swinton (partner); seven nephews; one niece; two aunts and five uncles; and a host of loving, loyal cousins.
