Obituary: Beatrice Virginia Phillips Jackson was born on March 14, 1937, in Blackstone, Virginia to Hattie Sue and Haynie Wesson Phillips. She grew up in Blackstone and attended schools in the Nottoway school system, eventually graduating from the Nottoway Training High School. After completing her education, Beatrice moved to Westchester County, New York, where she pursued her interest in computer science. She embarked on a career as a data supervisor for many years at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, New York. While in New York, Beatrice expanded her educational pursuits by studying business administration at Mercy College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Despite her career in the medical field, Beatrice had a passion for writing and channeled her love for writing into crafting poetry, which she shared with her family.

Upon retiring, Beatrice relocated from White Plains, New York, to Lithonia, Georgia, to be closer to her sister, Mildred. There, she worked as a salesperson in a home accessories shop owned by Rose Thierry-Brown and served as a substitute elementary school teacher in the DeKalb County School District. In neighboring Decatur, GA, Beatrice also became an active member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ, where she participated in Sunday School classes, Care Group 1, and worshiped under several ministers. She found additional fulfillment in the arts by participating in a church play, "Get Ready Church And Let’s Go Home," where she met her late husband, Edward Jackson.

Beyond her professional and religious pursuits, Beatrice enjoyed a rich personal life. She was a devoted basketball fan, had a love for travel with a particular fondness for trips to the Caribbean, and was renowned for her cooking skills, particularly her delicious barbecue pig feet.

Beatrice leaves behind a legacy of love for her family. She is survived by her son, Derrick Anthony Patterson, and his wife, Alain Snow Patterson, as well as her grandchildren: Christopher Hanchard, Raven Therese Patterson, Dane Anthony Patterson, and Starr Denelle Patterson. Additionally, she is remembered by her great-grandchildren: Ramiya, Nyir, Jaden, Skylar, and Jream. Beatrice is also survived by her sister, Mildred Inez Eskridge, and a multitude of nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States.

We thank you for your prayers and warm wishes in honoring our mother, Beatrice Virginia Phillips Jackson.
