Macon, Georgia - Ms. Josephine Smith was born in Macon, GA to the parentage of Attorney Robert Lee, Sr. and Debbie Reid Smith. She attended Bibb County Public Schools and graduated from Ballard Normal School. She received her undergraduate degree from Fort Valley State College and a master's degree from New York University.

Ms. Smith taught at Grambling State University and was a tenured professor of business education at Kentucky State University, where she received many accolades from both faculty and students.

Survivors include: sister, Theodora Smith; nephew, Dr. Robert Thomas, Sr.; and niece, Amelia Smith.
