Robert Lee Moore Sr.

Deacon Robert (Runt) Lee Moore, Sr., the son of the late Florence Hodges was a native of Hawthorne, Florida. He was born on December 25, 1942, in Ashburn, Georgia. He was educated in the St. Johns County School District and was a graduate of Walter E. Harris High School class of 1962. While attending high school, he played football under the leadership of Andrew Hinson. After graduation, he traveled to New Jersey and Alaska working in the Masonry field. He served in the military (Army) 1962-1964 and received an honorable discharge. After which, he became employed with International Tractor Equipment Company located in East Palatka, Florida. Upon leaving there he became employed with the Hudson Paper Mill in Palatka. Runt became a self-employed Farm Labor Contractor where he traveled in and out of the state. He was also a security guard, and his last employment was as a caregiver for Mr. Thomas Cooper, Sr. He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Palatka and played recreational softball with the Palatka A’s. Runt was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching the Florida Gators and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, going fishing, taking you down memory lane, in addition to playing dominos and cards at the Irene Monroe Walker Community Center, in Johnson, Florida.

Robert was a faithful member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. He was an ordained Deacon under the leadership of the late Reverand Charles Ferguson in 2008. He also sang with the Male Choir.

In addition to his mother, Robert was preceded in eternal rest by: Lillian Moore, maternal grandmother who raised him, sisters: Shirley Ann Battles, Linda Ruth Jordan, Sharon Denise Turner, and Felicia Grace Hodges, five aunts and four uncles.

Deacon Robert Lee Moore, Sr., peacefully answered God’s call on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 6:03 p.m. surrounded by his loving family at VA Medical Center located in Gainesville, Florida.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: loving and devoted daughter, Robyn (Robert) Wilkes Sr., Leesburg, Florida; sons, Robert Lee Moore Jr., Palatka, Florida, and Reginald (Amanda) Moore, Gainesville, Florida, bonus daughter, Tracy Thomas, Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Trelin Thomas, Cameron Moore, Ranger Wilkes, Julian Moore, Robert L. Moore III, Caleb Moore, Channing Moore, Eternity Moore, Micah Moore, great granddaughter, Khalia Thomas, sisters, Betty Jean Johnson, Velma (Eddie) Gainer and Brenda Gail Hodges, brothers, Sam (Eurma) Hodges and Johnny Hodges all of Tifton, Georgia, aunts, Justine (Betty) Moore, Hastings, Florida; Uncles, Jerry (Johnnie Mae) Moore, Lithonia, Georgia; and James (Cheryl) Moore, St. Augustine, Florida; special cousin, Betty Evans, and special friend, Claretha Alexander, friends, Charles Harris, Edwin (Bubba) Klipstine, Conrad (Susie) James, and Pauline (Freddie) Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and caring friends.

The family will receive friends and the community from 5-7p.m., Friday, February 23, at the Felix Coleman Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24, at Gethsemane MB Church, 317 Daniels St, Hastings. Interment will be held in Jacksonville National Cemetery on Monday, February 26, at 9:30 a.m.
