Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Ray Garrett,70, of Talladega will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the funeral home.
On September 23, 1953, Charlie Frank Garrett and Lena Maezonia (née Player) Garrett welcomed a son, Arthur Ray, in Talladega, Alabama.
At an early age, Arthur confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Peace Missionary Baptist Church and later united with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Talladega High School. Mr. Garrett was a longtime employee of Talladega Foundry and in his free time enjoyed fishing, barbequing and creating various wooden crafts. On September 19, 2019, Arthur and the former Tonya Phillips were united in holy matrimony.
On February 16, 2024, Arthur entered his eternal rest while he was a patient at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Charlie Garrett and Lena Maezonia Smith; and seven sibling, Charlie Garrett, Jr., Nellie F. Player, Karey Garrett, Barbara G. Glover, Terry Garrett, Sherry Scott and Michael Garrett.
Mr. Garrett leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Tonya Phillips of Talladega, Alabama; four daughters, Shereaka (Lester) De’Souza of Covington, Georgia, Yvonda Garrett of Birmingham, Alabama, LaBrika (James) Jones of Gadsden, Alabama and Destinee Garrett of Smyrna, Tennessee; two sons, Arthur R. (Shartala) Garrett, Jr. of Anniston, Alabama and Eric J. Garrett of Talladega, Alabama; a sister Robin Dates of Talladega, Alabama; two brothers, Billy (Rachel) Player of Talladega, Alabama Stanley Garrett of Opelika, Alabama; thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
