A native son of Savannah, GA, Robert Bruce Sherman, Jr. was born on July 27, 1946. In 1964, in pursuit of a higher education, Robert left his beloved hometown of Savannah to attend South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC. It was there that he obtained a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in chemistry. On the campus of South Carolina State University, Robert became a science teacher and Vice Principal at Felton Laboratory School for several years. Robert served as Vice Principal until he left South Carolina to teach in the Baltimore City Public School System where he taught for many years. During the later years of his life, Robert returned to his beloved Savannah and was a science teacher in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Until his retirement, Robert persevered in teaching the youth and dedicated his life to educating young minds and loved seeing young people learn. Robert’s generosity towards community service extended to various organizations as he was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC and a long-standing member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Robert is survived by 5 children, a granddaughter, a niece, a great nephew and a host of beloved family members and friends.
