Mrs. Mildred Ingram

Passed 02/23/2024

Mrs. Mildred Lawhon Ingram, our mother, and friend, transitioned from her earthly visit to her permanent home in Heaven on February 23, 2024, in peace and love. She was born to the late Willie and Martha Wages Lawhon, the fourth of five children and the last child to return to our heavenly Father. She was preceded to Heaven by her parents, her husband, Alexander Ingram; sisters, Inez, Margarette, and Rubye; and her brother, Jasper. They are now reunited in love.

Mrs. Ingram was a great mother who was deeply devoted to her family. She and her husband, Mr. Alexander Ingram, were blessed with four wonderful children: three daughters, Renee, Marquita, and Kim, and a son, Bernard. Her unwavering dedication to her family will always be remembered and cherished.

"Miss Mildred," as she was affectionally referred to, was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ throughout her life. During her childhood, the church, which was then known as Pilgrim United Church of Christ and located on the Southside of High Point, instilled a strong foundation of faith, and played a significant role in shaping her religious beliefs and spiritual growth. This small Christian church she attended during her youth was a meaningful symbol during the Civil Rights Era, a testament to the enduring strength of her beliefs. Mrs. Ingram made valuable contributions to the church as a Church Clerk, Hospitality Services, Pastor's Aide, Trustee Board member, Memorial & Mortgage Burning Committee member, Church Travel Coordinator, and President of the Women's Fellowship.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Ingram was a devoted advocate for children. She worked as a Head Start teacher for over 30 years before being promoted to Head Start Center Director. Her legacy of compassion, excellence and dedication to the wellbeing of children will continue to inspire generations to come.

Mrs. Ingram leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Renee and Kim Ingram, Marquita (Melvin) Fair, and son, Rev. Bernard Ingram, all of High Point, NC; nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren also survive her.

Funeral service will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ, 401 Gordon Street, High Point, NC. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
