Frank Marion Thompson, 74, transitioned to his heavenly home on February 26, 2024 at Lebanon VA Hospital, Lebanon, PA. He was born to the late Amy (Dowling) and the late Phinizee Thompson, Sr. on April 1, 1949 in Augusta, GA.
He graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School in Augusta, GA, where, as a star linebacker, he assisted in leading his team to victory in the 1966 State Football Championship. After graduation, Frank enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he relocated to York, PA before establishing a permanent residence in Harrisburg, PA.
Frank previously worked at Borg Warner-York (now known as Johnson Controls), the York County Prison, where he was a correctional officer and in the hotel industry as a concierge. Prior to his passing, he was employed by Unique Limousine as a professional chauffeur.
If you knew Frank, you knew he was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he loved to be dressed to the nines and he cherished his hat collection. In his leisure, he loved to travel, he was an avid lottery player, he was an excellent billiards player—a talent that earned him the 1985-86 Western Division Top Shooter Award—and most of all, he loved his family.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his stepmother, Alvenia Thompson; his brother, Phinizee Thompson, Jr.; his sister, Delores Goodman; his son, Andre Thompson; and his niece, Phaedra Thompson.
Frank is survived by his twin daughters, Tanya Thompson and Tenica Thompson of Aiken, SC; his sister, Lauren Washington of Augusta, GA; his special nieces, Dianna L. Thompson and Tonya L. Thompson-Morgan (James) of York, PA; a special sister-in-law, Carol A. Thompson of York, PA; his grandsons, Connor Cannon of Aiken, SC and Montreal Teasley of Augusta, GA; his niece, LaRay Jenkins of Hempstead, NY; his great nieces and nephews, Jazmyne Morgan and Kahlil Thompson of York, PA; and Tiana and Eric Clifford of Hempstead, NY and a host of cousins and friends.
Frank, a proud, resolute soul, will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends, his witty sense of humor and his zeal for life. He truly loved his family and friends and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength and a heart filled with love. He will be missed dearly.
Those who knew Frank knew he did not like being fussed over and would rather give than receive. In lieu of funeral services and to honor Frank’s memory, the family asks that donations be made to further advancements in cancer research.
Cremation services are entrusted to Major H. Winfield Funeral Home in Steelton, PA. The family will gather for a private interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Friday, March 8 at 10:30 AM.
