Margaret P. Mason

Margaret P. Mason, the daughter of Isaiah Pruitt and D'Lo Goldsmith, was born April 9, 1932 in Covington County, Mississippi.

She moved to Jackson in the early S0's and united with New Strangers Home Missionary Baptist Church. During her years at the church she was a faithful and loyal member, sang in the choir, was a member of the Missionary Society, the Gipson Circle and attended church every Sunday until her health failed. Psalm 23 and The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) were her favorite Bible scriptures.

Cooking was her specialty. She worked many years at Jitney Jungle- McCarty Holman cooking and training fellow employees. She loved cooking and baking for church activities. Her pound cakes were known far and wide because they tasted so good.

Margaret was a devoted mother and grandmother. Every Sunday she and her four children could be seen walking from Davis Street to Sidway Street (a long walk) in high heels for church services. She lived the life for her children and grandchildren and set the example based on the golden rule (Matthew 7:12) do unto others what you would have them do to you.

She leaves to cherish her everlasting memory four children: Deloris Murrell, Jackie (Curby) Sanders of Jackson, MS; James (Donna) Powell of Willingsboro, New Jersey and Earnest Powell of Jackson, MS; three sisters: Cassandra (Joe) Buckley of Lawrence, MS; Nancy Pruitt Lindsey and Pamela Pruitt Glenn of Newton, MS; four brothers: Willie Laster of Newton, MS; Terry Pruitt of Houston, TX; Perry Pruitt of Meridian, MS; and, Lamar (Donna) Pruitt of Newton, MS; twelve grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Mrs. Marie Calvin.
