Barbara Wilson

Passed 03/09/2024

On March 9, 2024, in Raleigh, NC, Barbara Jean Wilson was called to her heavenly home.

Barbara was born January 28, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Henry and Mamie Weaver. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria Northern, and her husband, Reverend Arthur Wilson.

Barbara grew up in Durham, NC where she graduated from Hillside High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Commerce from North Carolina College at Durham in 1969 (known today as North Carolina Central University). Barbara and Arthur were married 50 years and from their union are two children, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Barbara loved the Lord. She had a beautiful voice. She sang in many choirs both in the churches she attended, community choirs, in the prisons (where she, Arthur, and their children ministered for many years), and the church she and Arthur pastored. Before Arthur started pastoring Community Christian Fellowship (formerly Community Baptist Church), wherever Arthur ministered God's word, Barbara would precede the word in song. Wherever she was, she made an impact. Arthur and she pastored for 14 years.

Barbara is an educator at heart. She taught in many capacities in the Cumberland County School System until the early 1990s when she retired. In 1993, she became certified to teach English as a Second Language and enjoyed teaching English to students from all over the world. In 1997, she completed her education at Fayetteville Technical Community College for the Early Childhood – Childcare Administration program and opened a small daycare which grew to Dove Childcare Center. By 1999, her center was accredited by The National Association for Family Childcare and was one of the 1st daycares in North Carolina to receive a 5-star status. All while teaching in a classroom setting, she taught Bible Study and Sunday school for many years.

She is survived by her children – Vincent Wilson (Shelby) - Alexandria, VA, and Angelite Mims (Carlos) - Raleigh, NC. Her sister-in-law, Mother Ruthie Mae Johnson – Fayetteville, NC; her grandsons – Carlos C. Mims, Jr., Keanan J. Mims (Brittani), Matthew J. Mims (Dazmine), Timothy J. Mims, Kristian J.
