Rev. Frederick C. Young III, 81, went home to be with our Lord on March 12, 2024. He was the first born of five children to his parents, Mary E. Broadnax Young and the late Frederick C. Young Jr. on December 2, 1942 in Jacksonville, FL. Frederick was educated in the public schools of Duval County, graduating from Matthew W. Gilbert High school in 1960, where he was class president and voted most ambitious. He attended Edward Waters College locally and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL before later finishing at EWC with a B.S in Mathematics.
During his time in Tallahassee, Frederick met and fell in love with Elizabeth Caswell and they were married in August 1968. Between the years of 1971 through 1982, Frederick went on to become a father to two sons and 3 daughters.
From a young age, it was known that God had a calling on Frederick's life while a member at First Baptist Church of Oakland. In 1972, he answered the call and earned his Master of Divinity at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. Frederick was active in his ministry in multiple places throughout his life including Hammond, IN, Philadelphia, PA as Pastor of Wayland Memorial Baptist Church and here locally in Jacksonville as an associate minister at First Baptist Church of Oakland, Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church and later Greater Macedonia Baptist Church before his retirement in 2005.
Frederick was preceded in death by his beloved father, Frederick Jr.; his youngest sister, Elizabeth; brother, Robert Othello; and youngest son, Edward.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth C. Young; oldest son, Frederick Douglass; and oldest daughter, Linelle Jenkins (Donald) of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Lori Smith (Jarrett) of Port St. Lucie, FL and Emerald Miranda (Gerard) of Philadelphia, PA; his beloved mother, Mary E.B. Young; sister, Rosemary Johnson(Ronald); brother, Jerone Young, aunt, Grace Brown and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Frederick's homegoing service will be held Tuesday March 26th 11:00am at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, 1880 Edgewood Ave W.
Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 N Main St.
Visitation of friends will be Monday, March 25th 5-7pm at James Graham Mortuary 3631 Moncrief Rd
