Elizabeth Dove Thompson, 95, of Richmond, entered eternal rest March 13, 2024. She was born in 1929 in Raleigh, North Carolina to the late Ivory and Vessie McKoy Dove.
At an early age, Elizabeth accepted Christ and lived a Christian life. She attended Fifth Street Baptist Church for several years and later joined Love Outreach Ministries where she served faithfully for many years. There she was lovingly known as “Mother Thompson.” She held numerous fond memories of her time there.
Elizabeth grew up in North Carolina where she attended public schools in both Fayetteville and Harnett County. She continued her education at St. Philips School of Nursing in Richmond, Virginia. After graduation, she was employed at MCV/VCU Hospital as a registered nurse for her entire professional career - approximately 40 plus years. Her concern and dedication were such that she frequently worked double shifts. For several years, she also did private duty nursing at Richmond Memorial Hospital on Westwood Avenue.
Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, walking the track and reading. She was an unusually avid reader whose bookshelves were always full. She was an excellent cook known well for her greens, mac & cheese and especially her candied yams. Her loving, generous, sweet spirit endeared her to her family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and church family.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her husband, Eddie B. Thompson, Jr.; one sister, Venetta Dove and three brothers, Matthew, Mack and John Dove.
Left to celebrate her life with cherished memories are her daughter, Bessie Smith (Tommy) of Glen Allen, Virginia; two sons, Reginald Thompson (Harriet) and Roderick Thompson, both of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, T. Otey Smith (Carlla) of Washington, DC; Jamil Smith of Brooklyn, New York; NaSharda Clevert, Paisha Thompson and Collin Thompson all of Richmond, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Haven and Wren Smith; one dear, dear sister, Minnie Swann (Felton) of Cameron, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Olivia Powell of Fort Washington, Maryland; a host of nieces, one loyal, devoted niece, Grace Dove of Henrico, Virginia; nephews; one loving, supportive great niece, Sonya Moore of Varina, Virginia, cousins, other relatives and friends.
