Rev. Dr. James Copeland

Inman, SC – Reverend Dr. James Calvin Copeland peacefully entered rest on April 1, 2014. Mr. Copeland was the husband of his loving wife of forty-eight years, Mrs. Eleanor Ann Copeland; he was the son of the late Mrs. Ethel Louvenia Copeland Lovick and the late Mr. Robert Wilkins. James earned undergraduate degrees from Cecil Business College and USC-Upstate. He later received an Honorary Doctorate in Theology from Emmanuel Baptist Bible Seminary in Connelley Springs, NC. Dr. Copeland served in the United States Armed Forces and later retired from Cryovac as a computer specialist. James was the Founder and Pastor of Messiah Baptist Church. He served as Moderator of the Spartanburg County Union of Churches, Advisor of the Spartanburg County Brotherhood and instructor of the Spartanburg County School of Methods. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his son, Kevin Antwand (Latonia) Copeland; his twin granddaughters, Abigail and Gabrielle Copeland; his aunt, Janette Gist; his brother in law; Tony Harris; his special niece, Juanettia Harriston; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Reverend Dr. James Calvin Copeland was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Shirley Harris. A Celebration of the Life of Reverend Dr. James Calvin Copeland will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church. The Reverend Benjamin Snoddy, will officiate. Mr. Copeland will lie in state at Messiah Baptist Church on Friday, April 4th, from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Mr. Kevin Copeland, 342 Copper Creek Circle, Inman, South Carolina. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home
