David Keith Chapman, known as "El Chappo" to his family and friends, departed this earthly dwelling and took his rest to be with the Lord on March 26, 2024. He was born and raised in High Point, NC, on February 22, 1963, to David and Lula Davis Chapman, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and grandmother, Robert and Beulah Carter Davis; fraternal grandparents, Andrew and Ola Wright Chapman; special aunt, Priscilla Davis Jones; and sister, Robin Chapman.
David graduated from High Point Andrews High School, class of 1981, where he excelled as an outstanding wrestler and received many awards. He was so proud of his achievements and often talked about them with a big smile on his face. During his lifetime, he worked at various furniture factories, but his most cherished one was Marsh Furniture, where he held a supervisory position for over ten years.
"To know him was to love him." He lived life to the fullest and always tried his best to make everyone happy. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. His favorite saying was, "I'm doing the best I can." He loved everyone unconditionally and was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Win or lose, he always supported his favorite team. He was the life of the party and loved to make people laugh with his signature dance moves. If the music wasn't loud enough, he didn't want to hear it at all.
"He wasn't a regular church-goer, but he was definitely a praying man, and he loved the Lord. Another saying he always used was "God's got me." The family will continue to live on and take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place, free from pain, hospital visits, doctor check-ups, loneliness, and sorrow. He is now walking around heaven all day with his loved ones."
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Shaquita and Davida Chapman; grandchildren, Carter, Chase, and Chandler; sister, Vickey (John) McCullough and a bonus sister, Roslyn Nelson; aunts, Julia Quick, Betty Timberlake, and Ruby McQueen; bonus children, Trina Little, Sylvia Ledbetter, Tameka Little, Andrian Little (Fella); his bonus grandson, DeMarion T. Little; his companion of over 30 years, Cynthia Little and his ex-wife, Shelia Chapman; nieces, Tia Wright, Johnetta McCullough and Courtney McCullough; great nieces, Kamille Bawa, whom he calls Granny Goo Goo; nephews, Lloyd Vincent Price, John McCullough; great nephew, Tashaun Staples; special cousins, Vanessa Blakeney and Wanda Turner and a host of other cousins and close friends who will all miss his presence, several special buddies, John Lucas, Larry Davis, Gary Parker and Darrell Jackson whom he called Jack the Rip.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
