Mr. Edward Baskin, 79, of Columbus, GA passed Friday, April 5, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday April 11, 2024 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1 Nuckols Road, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Dr. Robert Dickerson, Jr., Interim Pastor, officiating and Rev. Elijah Lamar, eulogist. Interment will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Public viewing is Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 1 - 5 p.m. EST.
Mr. Edward Baskin was born April 30, 1944, in Union Springs, Alabama to the late Willie Lee Baskin, Sr. and the late Leida Weems Baskin.
Ed was baptized with the Holy Spirit and joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church family.
He was a 1964 graduate of G.W. Carver High School, where he played football and basketball. Upon graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force. He served proudly as an airman in the Vietnam War. After serving in the military, Ed began his career at Sunshine Biscuits – later named Kellogg’s. He retired from Kellogg’s after 40 years of dedicated service.
Ed was united in Holy Matrimony to a loving and devoted wife, Mildred for almost 40 years. Their love endured the test of time; she remained dedicated and faithful until the end.
Ed was a very endearing man who loved to fish, but most of all, he loved his family. He was strong minded and had a strong spirit. He was truly a “King”.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by seven siblings, Willie L. Baskin, Jr., Bennie G. Baskin, Doris C. Mitchell, Savanna B. Coats, James C. Baskin, Charles L. Baskin and Johnny L. Baskin.
Edward leaves a powerful legacy of love and charitable memories to his loving wife, Mildred Baskin; children, Zarome (Angela) Lakey, Kijuana (Carlos) Waldo, April (Timothy) Jones, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Eddison) Weaver and Darryl Lewis; one brother, Terry Baskin; three sisters, Marianne (William) Dixon, Irma Jean (Benjamin) Cotton and Charlene (Walter) Mitchell; 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
