Mrs. Annie Rose Mercer, 98, of Douglasville, GA passed Sunday, April 7, 2024 in Austell, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Nichols Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Wendal Jones, pastor, officiating and Rev. Dr. Isaac Hudson, eulogist. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Public viewing from 12 - 5 p.m. EST, Friday, April 12, 2024.
Annie Rose Mercer, native of Phenix City, AL was born in Phenix City, AL, March 8, 1926. Annie Rose was preceded in death by her parents Maggie Lee Jakes and Nimrod Jakes. Her soul took a peaceful flight to an eternal resting place on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
Over the course of her career, she worked at Wades Laundry and Fort Benning as the KP Supervisor. Annie Rose joined Welsey Chapel under Reverend Pouncey and has been the proud member and President of the Auxiliary Board of Nichols Chapel AME Church for over 75+ years. Collecting dues, telling other people what to do, and selling monthly dinners to support the pastor was her passion in life. She loved singing in the Senior choir with her siblings Maggie Ivy, Jessie Bell Thomas, Frances Jones, and other choir members under the direction of Clifford Rutledge.
Besides her parents Annie Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, Oliver Mercer Sr.; two children, Oliver (Mary) Mercer Jr. and Pamela Harris; six siblings: Jessie Bell Jakes Thomas (Felix), Francis Jones, Maggie Ivey (Jimmy Lee), Vinnie Austin (Jesse), Nimrod Jr. Jakes (Mary Jane), Clark Jakes (Jessie) and Abraham Jakes.
Her fond memories will be cherished by her son Antonio (Laura) Mercer; son-in-law Larry Harris; grandchildren, Rashan Harris, Kenyatta (Johnny) Garrett, Gino Harris, Nico Harris, Shamekia Owens, Brandon Kimbrough, Daphne Williams, Jessica (Eric) Thirkield and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, cousins, family and friends.
