Obituary For Janet Whittenburg

GAFFNEY, SC -- Janet Ellis Whittenburg, 88, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 25, 2015. Mrs. Whittenburg was the daughter of the late Morris Ellis and Cora Nesbitt Ellis. She was the widow of Douglas James Whittenburg. Mrs. Whittenburg was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her daughters, Patricia Ann Ellis of Jamicia, NY and Georgia Ellis Bewayo of White Plains, MD; her step-daughter, Annie Jolly of Gaffney, SC; her god-daughter, Lavetta Sherrill of Gaffney, SC; her special grandsons, Derek L. Dawkins of Macon, GA, Steven T. Dawkins of Macon, GA, Brian M. (Kim) Ellis of Spartanburg, SC, Thomas Cheeks of Gaffney, SC and Troy Ellis of Spartanburg, SC; her cherished granddaughters, Tara Y. Ellis of Jamaica, NY and Elizabeth Cheeks of Gaffney, SC; her nieces reared in the home, Dorothy McDowell, Mamie Jeffries, Cindy (Harold) Wallace, Gwen (Freddy) Posey and Sandra Littlejohn; her nephews, Cleo, Larry and Elliott Littlejohn; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Mrs. Whittenburg was preceded in death by her husband; and her daughter, Yvonne Ellis Cheeks. A Celebration of the Life of Janet Ellis Whittenburg will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Reverend C.A. Wallace will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tueday, March 31, 2015 at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home, 214 Ellis Ferry Ave., Gaffney, South Carolina.
