Obituary For Clarence Dover

Spartanburg, SC – Clarence Dover, 90, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 8, 2015. Mr. Dover was the son of the late Charles and Ella Castleberry Dover. He was the widower of Virginia Watson Dover. Mr. Dover was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was the former Chairman of the Deacon Board, Church Treasurer, member of Male Choir, Brotherhood Ministry, Sunday School member, Usher Board, Benevolent Committee, Choral Union of Spartanburg County member and the Ushers Union of Spartanburg County and Baptism Committee. He also served as custodian of the church. Clarence was one of the founding members of the Silver Lake Lodge No. 388; he was a tower and member since 1947. Mr. Dover was a World War II United States Navy Veteran. He was employed with Moreland Chemical and Butte Knit until his retirement. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his devoted son, Jimmy Dover of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his cherished daughters, Betty Dover of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Patricia (John “Wes”) Murphy of Moore, South Carolina and Annie B. Davis (Robert “Bobby”) of Ewing, New Jersey; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his sons, Willie C. Dover and Edwin G. Dover; his twin brother, Clinton Dover, Sr. and his sister, Carleathe Dover. A Celebration of the Life of Deacon Clarence Dover will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 250 Morning Dr., Spartanburg, South Carolina. Reverend Dr. Michael A. Glenn will officiate. Interment will be held in the church cemetery, 1498 W. O. Ezell Blvd., Spartanburg, South Carolina. Military Rites will be held; Masonic Rites will be conducted following the Military Ceremony. The family will receive friends at the home, 624 Massachusetts Blvd., Spartanburg, South Carolina.
