Obituary For Madora Kelly

Spartanburg , SC – Madora Ellen Kelly, quietly and peacefully transitioned from this earth and went home to be with her heavenly Father, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Inman, South Carolina. Prior to her entering into Magnolia, she resided with her loving nephew A.J. Kelly and his wife Gerri at 202 Golden Pond Court, Roebuck, South Carolina. Madora was the fifth child born to the late John Belton and Mary Durham Kelly on August 10, 1910 in Cashville, South Carolina. She was the sole survivor of her ten siblings, Javan, Boyce, Fred, Joseph, Wesley, John Howard, Lizona, Nellie Mae and Carrie Lee. At age thirteen Madora gave her life to Christ at Old Pilgrim Baptist Church in Greenville County. She was a faithful member. Her education began in a one-room school known as Durham Grove in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She concluded her education at Foster Grove School in Roebuck, South Carolina. In 1945, Madora gave birth to a lovely daughter, Peggy Ann Kelly. After the death of her beloved sister Carrie Lee, she assumed the role of mother to Carrie Lee’s five children: Timothy, Lonnie, Shirley, Eyvonne and Vicky. She was also mother for her grandson Stacy. In the workforce Madora was a domestic worker for a number of years. She was a dependable and dedicated employee at the former Raycord Shirt Factory for 25 years as a seamstress. She retired in 1986 to care for her ailing daughter, Peggy Ann who went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 1986. Madora had a quiet and gentle spirit. She was rich in heritage of our forefathers. Madora enjoyed her life in the mist of her nieces and nephews, she enjoyed her days doing “Crossword Puzzles” and listening to TV evangelists. She was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church in Roebuck, South Carolina under the spiritual guidance of Reverend Patrick Suber. Madora always looked forward to celebrating her birthdays with Family and Friends. Memories will be cherished by: her grandson, Stacy Lyn Kelly of Spartanburg, South Carolina; her inherited children, Lonnie (Corrie) Hosley of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Shirley (Sam) Williams and Eyvonne (Lyndell) Capitol of Edgewood, Maryland; Vicky (Johnny) Johnson of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Phyllis Hosley (Timothy’s devoted widow) of Moore, South Carolina; her devoted nephew, A.J. (Gerri) Kelly of Roebuck, South Carolina; her sister-in-law, Sadie Kelly of Bronx, New York; her inherited eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; her loving nephews, nieces, cousins and family friends from various areas; and an awesome caregiver for several years, Ms. Willie Mae Jeter, an extension of God’s love! A Celebration of a Blessed Life of Madora Ellen Kelly will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Foster Chapel Baptist Church, 2800 Stone Station Road, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Reverend Lawrence Meadows will officiate. Interment will be held in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Friends and family visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Kelly, 202 Gold Pond Court, Roebuck, South Carolina and at the home of Benjamin Stewart, Jr., 106 Churchill Avenue, Moore, South Carolina.
