Mother Abbie Lee Beard Isom, 87, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Mary P. B. Church (655 W. Georgia Street), with burial at Tallahassee Memory Gardens.
Mother Abbie Lee Beard Isom was born on February 3, 1937. Abbie was the eighth child born to Mr. Will and Mrs. Savannah Beard. Abbie attended Leon County public schools and graduated from the original (old) Lincoln High School. Additionally, Abbie attended the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) majoring in Elementary Education. Mother Isom was a lifelong member of St. MaryPrimitive Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Mother Board, sung in the Choir and directed the Junior Choir until her health began to fail.
Abbie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Johnnie Isom, Jr. on February 25, 1968. The Isom’s were blessed with two lovely daughters: Glacia Y. Johnson (deceased) and Amanda C. Austin. Ms. Abbie. Initially, worked at Sunland Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1983, patients and staff were transferred to the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee where Abbie worked until her retirement.
Mrs. Abbie Isom was a long standing, dedicated member of the several Prince Hall Affiliated and Masonic organizations: Fairest Among Thousands Chapter #28 Order of the Eastern Star (OES); Venus Court #65 Heroines of Jericho (HOJ); Ruth Court #2 Ladies Of the Circle Of Perfection (LOCOP); Hope Guild #15 Heroines of the Templar Crusade (HOTC); D. J. Morgan #71 Order of the Golden Circle; Ahmed Court #134 and Pride of Tallahassee #61 Order of the Calanthe.
Mother Abbie Lee Beard Isom is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years: Deacon Johnnie Isom, Jr. A daughter Amanda C. Austin of San Antonio, Texas. Brother-in-law: Gene Kelly (Marty) Isom of Lake Wales, Florida. Sister-in-law: Maxine Isom of Lake Wales, Florida. Mother Isom is also survived by numerous Godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mother Isom was preceded in death by: her beloved daughter Glacia Y. Johnson; her Parents (Will and Savannah Beard); her siblings – Ishmael Madry, Althea Nicholson, Willie Beard, Amanda “Fannie” Beard Galloway, Earnestine “Tee” Beard Terry, Wallace Beard, Abraham Beard, Sherman Beard, Majorie Beard and Roy James Beard.
